Charles Broughton

Charles Broughton, a beloved father, brother, veteran, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 14, 2026, after a prolonged illness. He faced each day with remarkable resilience, fiercely maintaining his independence until the end of his journey. Born on February 20, 1948, in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, Charles was the son of Lashelle and Estelle Broughton. He spent his youth in Long Beach Island, New Jersey, which forever instilled his love of the ocean. Charles was a proud veteran who bravely served as an aircraft mechanic for the US Air Force, and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. His service was a testament to his unwavering sense of bravery and honor, traits that he carried with him throughout his life. Following his military service, Charles found his calling in the world of highway construction and contracting, where he applied his technical and mechanical expertise with great success. He began his career at JH Supply Company, where his hard work and dedication would eventually lead him to become part owner of Cimarron Supply in Albuquerque, NM. His colleagues and employees remembered him as a hard working man who also had a penchant for fun when the job was done. Outside of work, Charles was an avid outdoorsman, indulging in his love for hunting and fishing whenever he could. He was also a passionate sports fan, never missing a chance to cheer on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Red Sox. His enthusiasm for sports was infectious, and he often shared this joy with his family and friends. Charles cherished every moment with his beloved children, Alyssa and Matthew, and would carry a lifelong devotion to their mother, Janet Broughton, even as they parted ways as a married couple. He is also survived by his siblings, Sandra Wiley, Bobby Broughton, and David Broughton, as well as his dearest lifelong friend, Bob Gore. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Patricia Vautier, whose memories he held dear. In the hearts of those who knew him, Charles will always be remembered for his warmth, humor, and quiet strength. His daily phone calls with his family would always end with his signature phrase, "Love you bunches... Let's see what tomorrow brings.", a reminder of his optimistic spirit and deep love for those around him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests those who knew him to plant a tree in his memory, or simply to take a moment in his honor to appreciate the beauty and solace found in nature. Charles Broughton will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, service, and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
