Charles A Mantella

June 5, 1953 — October 16, 2026

Charles A. Mantella, known affectionately as Chuck, passed away unexpectedly at home after a short illness. Born on June 5, 1953, in Cortland , NY, Chuck lived a life full of adventure, love, and dedication. Chuck was the cherished son of Antonio and Angelina (Matera) Mantella, who have predeceased him. His family roots ran deep, and he took immense pride in the legacy of the “Fighting Mantellas,” as his father and five uncles bravely served in World War II, with two, including his father, earning the Purple Heart. A spirited athlete from a young age, Chuck graduated from Courtland High School and pursued higher education on a tennis scholarship at ACC. His zest for life led him to Vail, Colorado, in 1974, where he embraced the dual life of a fine dining waiter by night and a ski enthusiast by day. His adventures took him to the challenging Baldy Shoots in Utah, a testament to his courage and skill on the slopes. Chuck returned to Skaneateles in 1979, where his career in the restaurant industry flourished. From being the first male waiter at the Sherwood Inn to waiting tables and managing esteemed establishments like The Green Gate Inn, The Mandana Inn, The Old Stone Mill and Under the Stone to name a few , Chuck’s charisma and warmth left an indelible mark on countless patrons and colleagues. His time at Morris’ Grill is legendary, as he became a mentor and friend to many young people graduating from high school and then college and who fondly returned to visit him over the years. In the later chapters of his professional life, Chuck transitioned to roles at Tops market and the Skaneateles School District. Yet, his commitment to his community extended beyond his career, as he actively participated in the American Legion Post 239, honoring his family’s military heritage. At 44, Chuck embarked on a new adventure: family life. He married his soulmate, Susan (Randall-Mantella), and lovingly adopted his daughter, Nicole. His family was his pride and joy, and his love for them was boundless. Chuck’s sister, Jennifer Ann Mantella, sisters-in-law Cindy Gannon and Christine Goodman, and stepmother-in-law Bruna Oman, along with many extended family members and friends, mourn his passing and celebrate his life. He is pre deceased by his parents, his Brother in laws Charlie Klempka (Jennifer Ann), Michael Gannon ( Cindy) Joseph Carbone (Christine) and his Sister in Law Katherine Oman, and his wife’s parents Harold and Edith Oman. Chuck was a man of integrity, kindness, and strength. He saw people for who they truly were, valuing honesty and respect above all else. His passion extended to sports, where he excelled in golf, running, and cycling, embodying determination and resilience. Chuck did not want pomp and circumstance when his time here was done, he wanted to celebrate a life well lived. Honoring his wishes there will be a Celebration of His Life on Friday October 23rd 2026 at 4 pm at The American Legion post 239 in Skaneateles. Please join him for a drink, a bite to eat, to share a story or just to say good bye. Chuck’s spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Legion Post 239 in his memory, honoring a life well-lived and a legacy cherished by all who had the privilege to know him.
