In Loving Memory of Charles Atkinson
On July 1, 2026, Charles Atkinson, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the Avon Cleveland Clinic, surrounded by his devoted sisters, after a courageous battle with illness. Born on April 22, 1960, in Lorain, Ohio, Charles lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to his family and community.
Charles was the cherished son of Thelma V. Atkinson, who predeceased him. He is now reunited with his dear mother, sister Shirley M. Atkinson, brother Barry Atkinson, and his grandparents, Thelma Bonilla and Clarence Atkinson, who also preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Regina Whitfield-Atkinson. Together, they created a beautiful family, blessed with three children: son Charles (CJ) Atkinson, daughters Shayla Atkinson and Raee Janay Atkinson. Charles took immense pride and joy in his seven grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into his life.
Charles was a guiding light to his siblings, brothers Anthony (Tony) Atkinson, Terry Williams, Bryan Atkinson, and Larry Atkinson, and sisters Patti (Howard) Frost, Tamara (Tammy) Atkinson, Jackie Fears, and Laurie Atkinson. He was also surrounded by a host of nieces, nephews, and countless close friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A proud alumnus of Clearview High School, Charles dedicated many years to working at Elyria Foundry. His skills as a carpenter and landscaper were honed through hard work and dedication until his well-deserved retirement. Beyond his professional life, Charles found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was known for his love of fishing, barbequing, and watching his favorite sports, particularly basketball, football, and boxing. Many fond memories were made playing cutthroat spades with his brothers, a pastime that brought him endless happiness.
Charles was a man of great compassion and warmth, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, especially his cherished sisters and nieces. His generosity extended to the neighborhood children, whose lives he touched with his kindness and support.
A service to celebrate Charles's life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New and Living Way Ministries, located at 1510 Cooper Foster Park Rd, Lorain, Ohio 44053. The family invites all who knew and loved Charles to join them in honoring his remarkable life.
