It is with heavy hearts and profound appreciation for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Charlene Wilkerson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Charlene left this world peacefully on February 13, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on June 5, 1942, in the vibrant city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Charlene was the cherished daughter of Harold "Red" Frederikson and Evelyn Basset.
Charlene's early years were filled with the simple joys of family life and community in Grand Rapids, where she learned the values of kindness and hard work from her devoted parents. She graduated from Rogers High School in 1961, a milestone that marked the beginning of a journey characterized by grace, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved.
In her professional life, Charlene found joy and purpose as a cashier at Meijer, where she devoted over 30 years to serving others with a warm and welcoming smile. Her friendly demeanor and genuine care for every customer she encountered left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of crossing her path.
Charlene's life was enriched by her marriage to her beloved Donald Wilkerson, with whom she shared many cherished memories. Together, they nurtured a blended family, finding happiness in the simple pleasures of antiquing and spending serene days at the lake. Their love was a testament to the power of companionship and the beauty of shared dreams.
Charlene was a beacon of love and kindness, always making friends with ease and leaving a trail of warmth wherever she went. Her caring nature endeared her to many, creating a circle of friends and family who will forever cherish her memory.
Charlene's legacy lives on through her daughter, Marce (Brian) Boersma of Gilbert, Arizona, and her grandchildren: Ryan Boersma, Ross (Maggie) Boersma, Brandon (Courtney) Boersma, and Jonathan Shackle. Her love and wisdom continue to guide her five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also remembered fondly by her nephews, Kyler (Brianna) Frederikson and their daughters, Lily and Amelia, and Kolton (Marisela Loera) Frederikson and their daughter, Mariana. Charlene held a special place in her heart for her cousin Linda Knoblauch, whom she affectionately referred to as her "little sister."
Charlene's life was marked by both joy and sorrow, having been predeceased by her beloved husband Donald, her parents Harold and Evelyn, her daughter Maria Shackle, and her granddaughter Lisa Shackle-Tracey. Despite these profound losses, Charlene's resilient spirit and unyielding love for her family shone brightly, providing strength and comfort to those around her.
In accordance with Charlene's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her memory and celebrate the beautiful life she lived.
