It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Charkita Kevel Fitzgerald, a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend, who left this world on May 15, 2026, at the age of 39. Born on August 30, 1986, in Birmingham, Alabama, Charkita was a radiant light in the lives of all who were fortunate to know her.
Charkita was the cherished daughter of Gloria Tate Fitzgerald and the late Charlie Cooke. Her life was woven with love and laughter, a testament to her generous spirit and infectious joy. She was predeceased by her father, Charlie Cooke, her stepfather, Fred Chaney, her son, Willie Jones, as well as her grandmothers, Daisy Cooke and Isabelle Tate. Special aunts Amelia Dowdell and Sophia Cooke, and her special uncle, Marvin Cooke, also preceded her, each leaving an indelible mark on her heart.
Educated in the Birmingham City Schools, Charkita graduated from Ensley High School, where she began forming the friendships and connections that she would nurture throughout her life. She dedicated most of her professional career to management, where her leadership and compassion left a lasting impact on her colleagues and clients alike.
Charkita’s life was a testament to her resilience and warmth. She will be remembered most for her big heart and contagious laughter, which could light up any room and bring comfort to those in need. Her spirit was as vibrant as her smile, and her kindness knew no bounds.
She is survived by her loving mother, Gloria Tate Fitzgerald, who, along with Curtis, provided her with unwavering support and love. Her daughters, Arian and Amontia Jones, remain her proud legacy, each embodying the strength and love their mother instilled in them. Charkita leaves behind her devoted sisters, LaShun Chaney, Ja’Quise Fitzgerald, Onika Cooke, Tiara Walker, and Timara Allen, and her brothers, Cleveland Tate Fitzgerald and Lamon Cooke, each of whom cherished her as a sister and confidante.
Her special friend, Amonte Murdock Jones, held a precious place in her heart, sharing in her joys and challenges with unwavering support. Charkita was also a beloved aunt to her special niece and nephews, Jermaine, Jeremihe, Jaqueze, and Jasmine Fitzgerald, all of whom she adored and inspired.
Though she did not have grandchildren or great-grandchildren, the legacy of love that Charkita leaves behind is immeasurable, as her spirit continues to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A service to celebrate the life of Charkita Kevel Fitzgerald will be held on May 30, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Integrity Funeral Home, located at 1011 Brooklane Dr #E, Hueytown, Alabama 35023. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor and remember a remarkable woman whose life was a blessing to all who knew her.
