Celebrating Home going of Maurice Day (aka) Abdul Latif Shabazz

Celebrating the Homegoing of Maurice Day, also lovingly known as Abdul Latif Shabazz, we gather to honor a life that was richly lived. Born on June 16, 1963, in Washington D.C., Maurice was the cherished son of Roosevelt Whitaker and Janice Day-Whitaker, both of whom predeceased him. With a legacy that spans generations, Maurice's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and dedication to family and friends. Maurice's journey began in the heart of D.C., where he was born and raised. He graduated from Oxon Hill High School in June 1983, setting forth on a path that would lead him to a fruitful career in the culinary arts. As a chef at George Mason University for over a decade, Maurice touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with his culinary expertise and warm heart. His passion for cooking extended beyond his professional life; he was known for his legendary grilling skills which he shared with loved ones at family gatherings. In June 1988, Maurice married the love of his life, Ivy Day. Together, they celebrated 38 glorious Years of marriage, filled with shared joys and adventures. Their union was blessed with a daughter Marquita Day-Pharr, Son n Law Terrell Pharr and 3 beautiful grandchildren: Nevaeh Day, Tyler Pharr, and Princeton Pharr. Maurice's family was the center of his world, and his love for them was as boundless as his enthusiasm for fishing in the great outdoors and his favorite football team, the Washington Redskins (now Commanders). Maurice was a man of many talents and interests. Known affectionately as Moe, he had a passion for sports and a knack for engaging in spirited discussions. His quick wit and ability to express himself were matched only by his deep knowledge of history. Moe was also renowned for his self of direction, often telling his wife, "Baby, I don't need no GPS because the streets are talking to me. His cherished family will fondly remember him as a human GPS, always ready to guide them on life's journeys. Beyond hıs family, Maurice leaves behind a rich network of loved ones, including his brothers William and Kenneth (also known as Pee Wee). One Son -in-law Terrell Pharr, seven sisters-in-law. four brothers-in-law. and host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and dear friends. He shared a special bond with Aunt Lorraine Day and Uncle Thomas Queen, who stood by him throughout his life. Maurice's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His humor, his warmth, and his ability to make everyone feel welcome will be remembered and cherished.
