With heavy hearts and a deep sense of gratitude for the life he lived, we announce the passing of Cedric Fykes, who left us on May 15, 2026, at the age of 37. Born on July 17, 1988, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Cedric's journey through life was one marked by dedication, humor, and an unwavering sense of kindness.
Cedric was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose presence brought comfort and laughter to those around him. Although he humbly claimed not to light up a room, his funny and easy-going nature made him a cherished companion. Cedric's sense of humor and laid-back demeanor endeared him to many, creating bonds that will last beyond his time with us.
A graduate of Western Kentucky University, Cedric pursued a career in nursing, a calling that allowed him to express his compassion and dedication to others. His career began as a Certified Nursing Assistant from 2012 to 2016, after which he advanced to serve as a Registered Nurse in various Intensive Care Units, including Neuro, Burn, and Trauma ICUs. His dedication to nursing extended beyond the borders of Kentucky as he embarked on a fulfilling journey as a Travel RN from 2020 to 2025, eventually finding a home at ROPH in 2025.
Though Cedric was not one for joining organizations or clubs, his life's work was a testament to his commitment to helping those in need. His colleagues and patients alike remember him as a steady presence in times of crisis, a true testament to his professional skill and personal warmth.
Cedric's life was also filled with simple joys, as he cherished time eating and sleeping—two activities that brought him comfort and joy.
Family was at the heart of Cedric's world. He was predeceased by Jasleen, Jaida, and Martyna, whom he held dear in his memories. He is survived by a loving family, including Andy; Manager, Pat., Dee, Jesie, Cherry, Cece, Kayla, Stephanie, Melody, Justina, Iwona, Peter, Carlos, Denise, Andrea S., Jen, and Nicole, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and humor.
A celebration of Cedric's life will be held at Yard House, located at 2301 Fountain Square Dr, Lombard, IL, on May 15, 2026, at 4:30 PM. Friends, family, and colleagues are invited to gather in Cedric's memory, to share stories, laughter, and love as we honor a life well-lived.
Cedric Fykes will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of care, laughter, and love will remain a guiding light for all who continue on the path he walked. May he rest in peace, embarking on his next great adventure.
