Cecil Merle Wirtz

July 16, 1941 — April 17, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Cecil Merle Wirtz, who departed this world on April 17, 2026, after a quick illness. Born on July 16, 1941, Cecil was a beacon of warmth, humor, and steadfast dedication to his family and community. Cecil was the beloved son of the late Raymond E. Wirtz and Mildred Lucille Chalfant. Raised in a close-knit family, Cecil was predeceased by his cherished parents, his brothers John, Elvin, and Dean Wirtz, his daughter Stephanie Alvarado, and Donna Barr. Despite these losses, Cecil's life was enriched by the love and laughter shared with his surviving family: his devoted wife, Landa Wirtz; his son, Rieter Christian Wirtz; and his treasured grandchildren, Anna Alvarado (Zack) and Nick Alvarado (Mackenzie). A man of many talents and interests, Cecil's journey began at Gillette Grove High School, where he laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning and growth. He was trained by his uncle, Merle Chalfant, in the art of barbering, a craft he honed with care and precision. Cecil's career took root at the Colonia Barber Shop on the Country Club Plaza, and he eventually opened the VIP Room in Mission, where he built a loyal clientele with his skillful hands and dry sense of humor. Cecil's life was marked not only by his professional achievements but also by the passions he pursued outside of work. An avid golfer, Cecil found peace and camaraderie on the greens. His love for birds brought him joy and serenity, while his keen interest in the stock market kept his mind sharp and engaged. On December 23, 1996, Cecil married the love of his life, Landa Kliewer. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, a bond strengthened by shared experiences and mutual respect. Together, they created a life filled with warmth, adventure, and lasting memories. Cecil will be remembered not only for his dry wit and humor but also for his unwavering dedication to those he loved. His legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and a life lived with purpose and integrity. Though he has left this earthly realm, Cecil's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A celebration of Cecil's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor a man who touched many lives with his gentle presence and generous spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of choice, in remembrance of Cecil's compassionate nature and his desire to make the world a better place. Cecil Merle Wirtz will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
