Cathylynn Hopkins, a cherished soul known for her boundless love, unwavering faith, and deep compassion, peacefully entered eternal rest on July 9, 2026, at home with her beloved husband by her side. Born in Washington D.C. on January 2, 1965, to Marvin and Helen Metcalf, Cathylynn's life was a testament to kindness, resilience, and grace.
Educated in the Fairfax County Public Schools system, Cathylynn graduated from James Madison High School in 1983. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to the Virginia Technical Institute, where she earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in 1985. Her professional journey began with Digital Equipment Corporation as an IT Analyst, a role she embraced with dedication for fifteen years. Her thirst for knowledge was unrelenting, inspiring her to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Kaplan University in 2008. Cathylynn's career culminated at the Department of Health and Human Services, where she served faithfully until her retirement in 2026. Her commitment to professional growth was evident in the fifteen IT certifications she earned and her prestigious Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification in 2022.
Cathylynn's life was enriched by her deep and abiding faith. Her love for God was evident in every aspect of her life, as she extended kindness, encouragement, and compassion to everyone she met. She treasured her family deeply and celebrated life's blessings with immense gratitude. Her gentle spirit and generous heart were a source of inspiration to those fortunate enough to know her.
Cathylynn's marriage to Thomas Andrew Hopkins was a beautiful testament to faith and love. United in holy matrimony on December 1, 2025, their union was a story of patience, enduring love, and divine timing. Thomas was not only her husband but her soulmate, standing faithfully by her side, providing comfort and care throughout her life.
Cathylynn is lovingly remembered by her husband, Thomas; her devoted son, Ryan Christopher Metcalf; her brothers, Zachary Metcalf and Kevin (Cindy) Metcalf; her sister, Geneva Ealy; her cherished granddaughter, Genesis Ayne Metcalf; her bonus grandsons; her bonus son, Tyrone (Essence) Hopkins; her bonus daughter, Kamala Massey (Robine); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, JB, JC, Merle, Lawrence, and her sister, Tonya Thomas.
A celebration of Cathylynn's life will be held on August 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, located at 4325 Chain Bridge Rd, Fairfax, VA 22030. The family invites those who wish to honor her to consider making a donation to a charity of their choice.
In the words of her husband, Thomas Andrew Hopkins, "The most beautiful chapter of my life began the moment God sent you into it." Cathylynn's legacy of love and faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to be touched by her life.
