Catherine Wilson Shaw
August 20, 1937 — October 19, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Wilson Shaw, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend to many. Catherine was born on August 20, 1937, to Rosa Anderson Wilson and Wayman & Mary G. Wilson. She departed this world peacefully on October 19, 2026, in Florence, South Carolina.
Catherine was a woman of steadfast faith and dedication. She was a devoted member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Kingstree, South Carolina, where she worshiped with a joyful spirit until her health began to decline. Her involvement in the church community was a testament to her unwavering faith and her desire to serve others.
A product of the public schools of Williamsburg County, Catherine carried her love of learning into her career. She worked diligently with the Lane Consolidated School until its closure and later retired from Phoenix Baxter Co., leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment.
Catherine was predeceased by her loving parents, Rosa Anderson Wilson and Wayman & Mary G. Wilson, as well as her siblings, Hazel, Pearlie Mae, Waymon Jr., Hayward, Thurmon, Sandra, and Gracie. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her surviving family: her daughters, Rose Wilson of Lane, Thelma Shaw of the home, Sharon Bell, and Wilhemina Player of Florence, SC; her son, Dale E. Shaw; and two children she lovingly reared as her own, Christy (Tony) Reed and Lester (Marquita) Player. She is also survived by her sister Bobbie (Rand) Nesmith, brothers Charles Wilson and Bernard (Cynthia) Wilson of Andrews, and her sister-in-law Geneva Wilson of Andrews.
Catherine's legacy is further carried by her seven grandchildren: Chester (Chenora) Wilson of Jacksonville, Florida; Preston Wilson of Hoover, Alabama; Travis (Christian) Wilson of Simpsonville, SC; Regina (Dexter) Nelson of Austell, Georgia; Rhonda (Julius) Poinsette of Irmo, SC; Brittney (Kwame) Bell of Greenville, SC; and Dalesho Shaw of Andrews, SC. Her family continues with twelve great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two aunts, Annie Mae McClary and Minnie Pearl Epps, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and cherished friends.
Catherine was a beacon of love and kindness, her heart as generous as her smile was joyful. She was a nurturing presence in the lives of many children, including Kennedi Reed, whom she lovingly reared. Her warmth and compassion touched all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
A service to celebrate Catherine's incredible life will be held on October 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 3733 Thurgood Marshall Hwy., Kingstree, SC 29560.
