In Loving Memory

Catherine 'Kitty' Singleton
February 16, 1944 — June 14, 2026
Catherine 'Kitty' Singleton, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted community member, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, following a courageous battle with vascular dementia. Born on February 16, 1944, in Detroit, Kitty was the cherished daughter of Clarence Rainey and Viola Martin.
Kitty's life was a testament to resilience, love, and service. As the only child of her family to graduate high school, Kitty was a proud member of the Northern High School class of 1962. It was here that she discovered her passion for sewing, a skill that would bring joy to her and those around her throughout her life. Her keen mind and indomitable spirit were evident in everything she pursued, from her personal endeavors to her professional achievements.
On December 6, 1962, Kitty embarked on the most beautiful chapter of her life when she married Frederick D. Singleton in Detroit. Together, they built a life filled with love, devotion, and a shared sense of purpose for 39 wonderful years until Fred's passing in 2001. Their union was blessed with five children: Edward Douglas Singleton, Floyd Gary Singleton, Cassandra Denise Cleveland, Frederick Douglas Singleton II, and Kimberly Dean, alongside the nephew she lovingly raised as her own, Raymond Williams. Kitty's legacy continues through her 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, each a beacon of her enduring love and influence.
Kitty's career spanned over three decades at Anna's Uniforms, where she excelled as a salesperson, leaving a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike. Her dedication and work ethic were unparalleled, but it was her role in the community that truly defined her. An active member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years, Kitty was a beacon of faith and service. She served as the President of Usher Board #1, a devoted Deaconess, and a cherished Sunday School Teacher. Her involvement extended to the Birthday Club and the Scholarship Committee, where her contributions were invaluable.
In her personal life, Kitty found joy in life's simple pleasures. An avid seamstress, her home was often filled with the comforting hum of her sewing machine. She was a creative soul, transforming fabric into works of art, each piece a reflection of her meticulous craftsmanship. Kitty also cherished moments spent watching her favorite shows, always accompanied by her beloved plain potato chips and a Snickers bar.
Kitty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frederick Douglas Singleton, Sr., her parents, and her siblings, Helen Porter, Geraldine Williams, Rhunette Gunn, Frances Ross, Edward, George, and Clarence Martin, and brother-in-law, William Ross. Her legacy is lovingly carried forward by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A service to honor Catherine 'Kitty' Singleton's life will be held on July 18, 2026, at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1831 Ewald Circle, where her life and legacy will be celebrated. Kit's warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those she loved.
