Catherine D. Shumway

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine D. Shumway, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on July 19, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on August 31, 1941, in St. Charles, Illinois, Catherine lived a life marked by faith, family, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. Cathy was the cherished daughter of Jesse and Leon Pierce, and she grew up alongside her siblings Jeanie, Madonna, Alon, and Sandy. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, sisters Jeanie and Madonna, brother, and her devoted husband, Charles, with whom she shared an incredible 63-year journey of love and marriage. Together, Catherine and Charles created a warm and nurturing home for their two sons, Mike and Dan, instilling in them the faith in Christ that Catherine held so dear. A devout follower of Jesus Christ, Cathy's faith was the cornerstone of her life. An active member of the Bethel Baptist Church of St. Charles, she derived great joy and solace from reading her Bible and participating in church activities. Her faith guided her actions and fueled her generosity, as she was always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need, be they strangers, friends, or family. Cathy’s legacy lives on through her surviving family members: her sister Alon, sons Mike and Dan and his wife Amy, grandsons Joe, Richard, Henry, and Wesley, and great-grandsons Mason and George. She was immensely proud of her family and treasured every moment spent with them, delighting in their them and offering her unwavering support and love. Cathy Shumway will be remembered as a beacon of love and faith, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
