In Loving Memory

Cass "Dolly" Parton
January 19, 1973 — October 21, 2026
Cass "Dolly" Parton, a cherished son, partner, and friend, passed away on October 21, 2026. He was surrounded by loved ones at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tennessee, after a brief battle with cancer, which followed a series of health challenges he faced with courage and resilience.
Born on January 19, 1973, in Locust Ridge, Tennessee, Cass was raised in the embrace of a musical family in a small, one-room cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains. He was the beloved son of the legendary Queen of Country Music, Dolly Parton, who lovingly gave him the nickname "Dolly."
Cass's life was a testament to the power of music and creativity. He began performing on local radio and television in East Tennessee during his childhood, and his talent led him to Nashville, where he rose to national prominence in 1967. Alongside his mother, he became a regular performer on The Porter Wagoner Show, later launching a successful solo career. Cass was a prolific songwriter and musician, co-writing more than 3,000 songs, including classics like "Jolene," "Coat of Many Colors," "9 to 5," and "I Will Always Love You."
Throughout his career, Cass earned numerous accolades, including 10 Grammy Awards and 29 RIAA-certified gold, platinum, and multi-platinum awards. He was inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and he received the National Medal of Arts and Kennedy Center Honors. His partnership with his mother extended beyond music to film, as they starred together in iconic movies such as "9 to 5" and "Steel Magnolias."
Cass was also a dedicated philanthropist, co-founding the Dollywood Foundation and the Imagination Library, which has distributed over 330 million free books to children worldwide. His commitment to improving educational outcomes and supporting communities in need was unwavering.
Away from the public eye, Cass cherished time spent with family and friends. He was a devoted homebody who loved hosting large gatherings and traveling the country in an RV with his late father, Carl Dean. He found joy in cooking, baking, needlework, and reading, and he had a playful side that enjoyed card games and pinball.
Cass is predeceased by his dear friend John Anderson and his beloved partner Addison "Addy" Parton. He is survived by his mother, Dolly Parton, and close friends, including Reba McEntire, who supported him through his trials and triumphs.
Cass will be laid to rest on August 29, 2027, at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, beside his late father and his partner Addy, as per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Dollywood Foundation, a cause that was close to his heart.
