It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cary McQueen, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who transitioned from this life on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Austintown Health Care Center, with his family by his side. Cary was born on March 2, 1946, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Lester Kitts and Sally Ward McQueen.
Cary was a beacon of joy and a pillar of strength within his family and community. He was predeceased by his cherished mother, Sally Ward; his daughter, Deborah McBride; and his grandparents, whose memories he treasured deeply. He leaves behind a devoted family to mourn his passing and celebrate his enduring legacy: his loving wife, Betty Mae Wilson McQueen; his sons, Carey McQueen Jr. and Carey McQueen; his daughter, Camille McQueen; his adopted children, Jeremiah McQueen and Alexis Deborah McQueen; his stepchildren, Earnestine Wilson and Louis Mahamed Pesha (Sadie) Amaz; along with a host of grandchildren, other family members, and friends who were like family to him.
Cary's life was marked by his commitment to his loved ones and his community. He attended Youngstown East High School and went on to build a career at Reeds Arena and Barrette Cadillac. A dedicated member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, Cary served on the Security Committee, offering his time and energy to ensure the safety and well-being of his faith community.
Beyond his professional and community endeavors, Cary was well known for his skate dancing at the former Reeds Arena, where he shared many joyful moments with friends and fellow enthusiasts. His passion for life, coupled with his infectious smile and kind spirit, left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Cary's life will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the New Bethel Baptist Church, located at 1507 Hillman St, Youngstown, Ohio. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Cary are invited to join in commemorating a life well-lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire.
In honor of Cary's memory, a television tribute will air on Sunday, May 31, at approximately 8:58 a.m. on FOX and 9:58 p.m. on MyYTV, allowing those near and far to reflect on and celebrate his remarkable journey.
Cary McQueen will be remembered as a man of deep faith, unwavering love, and boundless joy. His spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. As we say goodbye to a wonderful man, we carry forward his legacy of kindness, laughter, and love.
