In Loving Memory

Carroll Dean Mathis (Tuck)
October 2, 1933 — June 14, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Carroll Dean Mathis, affectionately known as "Tuck," on June 14, 2026, at Ukiah General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 2, 1933, in Lakeport, California, Tuck lived a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to his family and community.
Tuck was the cherished son of Jim and Margaret Mathis, both of whom predeceased him. On July 2, 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Marva Lee Myers, in Laytonville, California. Together, they shared 73 beautiful years of marriage, raising four wonderful children. Marva Lee sadly predeceased him, leaving a profound void in the family.
A proud graduate of Laytonville High School in 1951, Tuck was a man of unwavering work ethic and determination. He spent over 50 years as the owner and operator of CD Mathis Trucking/Logging, a business he ran with pride until his retirement in 2003. His career was a testament to his dedication and hard work, providing for his family and contributing to the local economy.
Tuck’s life was enriched by his hobbies and interests, which included camping and hunting with friends and family. He also enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, often stopping to play Keno in Tahoe, a pastime that brought him much joy.
He was known for his quick wit and warm smile, always ready with a joke to brighten the day. His gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, along with his kindness and generosity, left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Tuck leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his four children: Laurinda Waddington, Yvonne Redding, Carolyn Caron (Dave Moore), and Greg Mathis (Sue Mathis). His memory will also be cherished by his eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Perla’s Place and its staff for their dedicated care and support over the past five years, ensuring Tuck's comfort and dignity.
In accordance with Tuck's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his life and legacy. The family invites those who knew Tuck to honor his memory by embracing life with the same love and laughter he so generously shared.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made in Tuck's name to a charity of choice, honoring his spirit of kindness and community.
Tuck will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend, whose warmth and humor will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. May his soul rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Marva Lee.
