With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Carolyn Waltz, who left this world on November 6, 2025, after a courageous years-long battle with her health. Carolyn was born on July 6, 1942, in the quaint town of Cortland, NY, to her loving parents, Orrin and Rita Sampson. She was a beacon of light, laughter, and love to all who knew her.
Carolyn's journey through life was marked by a steadfast devotion to her family, friends, and community. In March of 1962, she married the love of her life, Charles Waltz, embarking on a remarkable 64-year journey together that took them from New York to Alaska, and finally to Georgia. Their love endured every hardship and embraced every blessing, and together they built a legacy of faith, laughter, and resilience.
Carolyn's educational journey began at Cortland Junior Senior High School, where she graduated in 1960. She furthered her education at the University of Alaska Anchorage, which not only enriched her life but also marked the beginning of a wide and varied career. Her commitment to serving others extended beyond her professional life. For nearly two decades, Carolyn was an active and cherished member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Blairsville, GA. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her.
A woman of many talents and interests, Carolyn was an avid and talented crafter and artist. She expressed her creativity through sewing, embroidery, and knitting. In her later years, she embraced the art of chip carving, transforming her husband Charles's woodworking projects into intricate masterpieces, from furniture pieces to bible boxes. Her artistic spirit was a reflection of her vibrant soul.
Known for her quick wit and warm smile, Carolyn had a remarkable ability to lighten the mood and make everyone feel welcomed and valued. Her kindness was a balm to those around her, and she possessed a rare gift for making people feel seen and heard.
Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Waltz, her beloved children Yancy (Connie) Waltz, Byron (Barney) Waltz, and Alisa (Kenneth) Curry.
