October 20, 1936 — May 7, 2026
Carolyn Jean Woods, a beloved pillar of warmth, kindness, and resilience, passed away peacefully surrounded by her devoted family on May 7, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on October 20, 1936, in the small, close-knit town of Winthrop, Iowa, Carolyn was the cherished daughter of Carl Doran, Imogene Nodurft, and her nurturing step-father Dale Nodurft. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of love, faith, family, and community.
Carolyn's journey through life was marked by her steadfast devotion to her family and her community. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas Woods, with whom she shared a marriage full of laughter and unwavering support. Together, they created a home filled with love and joy, cherishing each moment with their children and grandchildren. Carolyn was also preceded in death by her son, Tommy Woods, and her brothers, James Doran, Kent Doran, and Graydon Nodurft, all of whom she held dear in her heart.
A nurturing mother and grandmother, Carolyn leaves behind a legacy of love in her surviving daughters: Janna Hamilton (Jack), Jody Thompson (Tom), and Jill Kelly (Steve Wenner). Her spirit and wisdom live on in her treasured grandchildren: Courtney Woods (Jason Wescott), Rachal Woods, Jensen Kelly, Thomas Kelly, Elizabeth Thompson (Drew), and Olivia Thompson. Carolyn was also blessed with the joy of great-grandchildren: Brady Fettkether, Drakesyn Woods, and Christian Watermann, who brought light and laughter to her days.
Carolyn's life was enriched by the bond she shared with her brother, Dr. Robert Doran (Shirley), who, along with a host of nieces and nephews, held a special place in her heart. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she was the matriarchal figure who ensured that every gathering was filled with warmth, love, and the aroma of her famous apple pie.
Throughout her life, Carolyn was an active member of her community, where her gentle spirit and compassionate nature touched the lives of many. Her commitment to service was evident in her involvement with local charities and her church, where she found solace and a sense of purpose in helping others. Carolyn's legacy of kindness, generosity, and resilience will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
As we remember Carolyn, we celebrate a life lived with grace and gratitude, a life full of cherished memories and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Carolyn's life was a testament to the power of love, and her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and tears, honoring the beautiful life she led. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Carolyn's name to a charity of your choice, spreading love and kindness in her memory, just as she did throughout her blessed life.
May Carolyn Jean Woods rest in eternal peace, her spirit forever soaring in the hearts of those she loved.
