Carolyn Caldas

February 6, 1941 — March 25, 2026

Florien, Louisiana, welcomed a bright and spirited soul on February 6, 1941, when Carolyn Caldas graced this world. With a heart as expansive as the Southern skies under which she was born, Carolyn brought warmth, joy, and a touch of magic to everyone she encountered. On March 25, 2026, Carolyn departed this earth peacefully in Nacogdoches, Texas, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and indelible memories. Carolyn was the cherished daughter of Roy L. Cook Sr. and Opal Westfall Cook, who nurtured her love for music and life. Growing up in Florien, she developed a passion for singing and playing the piano, a love she would carry with her throughout her life. A graduate of Florien High School, Carolyn was known for her infectious laughter and the gentle spirit with which she faced the world. It was in Dover, Delaware, that Carolyn's heart found its perfect match. While babysitting for mutual friends, she met Arthur Caldas, a talented musician serving in the United States Airforce. Their connection was immediate and undeniable, and on October 18, 1964, they were united in marriage. Together, they shared over 55 years of deep, abiding love until Arthur's passing in 2019. Their union was a testament to devotion and partnership, inspiring all who knew them. Carolyn and Arthur built a beautiful family, blessed with their beloved son, Raymond Cook, and his wife, Monica. Her family was her pride and joy, and she reveled in the company of her six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each a precious extension of her heart. Carolyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur Caldas; her devoted parents, Roy Sr. and Opal Cook; and her dear brothers, Harold Cook, Danny Cook, and Roy Cook Jr. She is survived by her son, Raymond, and his wife, Monica; her brothers, Ralph Cook and wife Cheryl, James Cook, David Cook, Joe Don Cook and wife Kathy; her sister, Sharon Calhoun; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored her. A woman of many talents, Carolyn was known for the beautiful clothes she sewed and the delicious meals she prepared. Her home was always filled with the aroma of good food and the sound of laughter—an open door policy where strangers quickly became friends. Carolyn was gifted with a bubbly personality and a knack for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her humor and kindness were a balm to those around her, and her generosity knew no bounds. Carolyn's faith was a guiding light in her life. As an active member of the Center First Church, she expressed her devotion to the Lord through service and song, sharing her gifts with her community and inspiring others with her steadfast belief. Her family and friends will remember Carolyn as a beacon of light and love, a woman who never met a stranger and always had a joke ready to lighten the mood. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of kindness, humor, and grace, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. A celebration of Carolyn's remarkable life will be held at Center First Church, where her spirit will undoubtedly be felt in every note sung and every story shared. As we bid farewell to Carolyn, let us carry forward her legacy of love and laughter, ensuring that her memory continues to warm our hearts and light our paths.
