April 8, 1941 — May 26, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carole Leigh Pribyl, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, who peacefully left this world on May 26, 2026. Born on April 8, 1941, in Lincoln, Illinois, Carole was a beacon of warmth and kindness, touching the lives of many with her gracious spirit. Carole was the cherished daughter of Marlise D. Toston and Robert Alonzo Bates, who instilled in her the values of compassion and resilience. She was the devoted sister of Jeffrey Bates, with whom she shared a lifelong bond. Carole was preceded in death by her loving parents and her husband, Kenneth Pribyl, with whom she shared twenty beautiful years of marriage. Together, Carole and Kenneth built a life rich in love and laughter until his passing on April 13, 2006. A proud graduate of Lincoln Community High School, class of 1959, Carole embarked on a career that showcased her dedication and organizational skills. She worked as a scheduler for Lehn & Fink in Lincoln, Illinois, where she was known for her diligence and efficiency, until her well-deserved retirement. Prior to this, Carole was a valued employee at the First National Bank of Lincoln, where she made lasting friendships and left an indelible mark on all who worked with her. Carole was not only defined by her professional accomplishments but also by her zest for life and her love for adventure. She traveled extensively across the United States, visiting almost every state, collecting memories that she cherished deeply. Her artistic soul found expression in painting, a hobby she pursued with enthusiasm, capturing the beauty of the world around her. Her garden was a testament to her nurturing spirit, where she found peace and joy among the blossoms. A passionate reader, Carole's home was filled with books that transported her to different worlds, feeding her insatiable curiosity and love for stories. Her heart was also captured by her feline companions, especially her cherished black cats, Dac and Boomer, who were her constant sources of comfort and joy. Carole's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of community. She was a caring and wonderful friend and neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a warm smile. Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and the quiet strength that comes from living a life true to one's values. Carole is survived by her loving son, Brett Baldin, and his wife Denice, who carry forward her spirit of kindness and integrity. Her brother Jeffrey Bates and many dear friends will forever remember her wit, wisdom, and unwavering support. As we remember Carole, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unyielding spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and a world made better by her presence. A memorial service will be held to honor Carole's life, where friends and family will gather to share stories and celebrate the remarkable woman she was. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a local animal shelter, a tribute to her love for animals. Though she is no longer with us, Carole Leigh Pribyl's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
