Carol Mickey

August 8, 1942 — July 18, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Carol Mickey on July 18, 2026, at the age of 83. Carol was at home, surrounded by her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren, in the presence of love and comfort. Born on August 8, 1942, in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, Carol was the cherished daughter of Vincent Arnold and Ruth Cook Arnold, who predeceased her. She is also predeceased by her sisters, Lois Antonovich and Jane Olson, and her grandson, Matthias Loux. Carol is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 61 years, Terry Mickey, with whom she shared an extraordinary journey of love and partnership. Their love story began at Otterbein University, where they met and decided to "take a break" and see if their feelings endured "when the dogwood bloomed." They did, and their union became a testament to enduring love and faith. Carol was a devoted mother to Tracie Mickey Loux (John Loux), Tara Mickey Peifer (Jeremy Peifer), and Joseph Mickey (Megan Mickey). Her family was her pride and joy, and she was the adored grandmother to Nicholas Loux, Taylor Loux, Isabelle Loux, Justin Peifer, Aiden Loux, Emma Loux, Silas Mickey, Elia Loux, Jillian Mickey, and Nora Mickey. Carol also cherished her role as a great-grandmother to Mildred Loux, Arthur Loux, and George Loux. She is survived by her brothers, Terry Arnold (Deborah Arnold) and Matthew Arnold, who will miss her dearly. Carol's academic achievements included a diploma from Fairmont High School in 1960, a Bachelor's degree in Art Education from Otterbein University in 1964, and a Master's degree from Mansfield University. Her passion for teaching spanned eight decades, where she left an indelible mark on countless young lives. Carol taught elementary art for five years in the Wellsboro School District and then dedicated 40 years to teaching second grade at New Covenant Academy. Her commitment to education continued even into her retirement, as she remained actively involved in nurturing young minds. A woman of many talents and interests, Carol was known for her expansive wildflower gardens, which mirrored her vibrant spirit. She was a lifelong learner with a love for reading and studying, and a devoted equestrian who brought her horse, Mitsy, to college, competing in horse shows together. Carol was committed to her health, regularly engaging in walking, running, and fitness classes. Her personality was as radiant as the flowers she tended. Carol was renowned for the sparkle in her eyes, her joyful heart, and her infectious laughter. Her quick wit and sarcastic humor endeared her to many, and she was a revered figure in her community. In lieu of traditional floral arrangements, the family invites friends and loved ones to adorn the service platform with wildflower bouquets, reflecting Carol's love for nature. Contributions in Carol's honor can be made to New Covenant Academy in Lynchburg, VA, to support the continued education of young minds, a cause close to her heart. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to hospice, the Church of the New Covenant, and all friends who offered support during Carol's final journey. Your kindness and prayers have been a source of strength and comfort. Carol Mickey's legacy of love, laughter, and learning will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her spirit will forever bloom in the wildflowers she adored and in the lives she touched.
