Carol Leslie Utz Brown, a cherished wife, devoted mother, and beloved friend, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born on April 4, 1952, in Washington, DC, Carol lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. The daughter of Ralph T. Utz and Margaret L. Gray, Carol was welcomed into a close-knit family that instilled in her the values of kindness and resolute determination. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her husband, James Everett Brown, and her precious grandchild, Angel Baby Green. Carol and James, who were married on June 24, 1973, shared a beautiful partnership that spanned decades, characterized by unwavering support and unconditional love. Carol is survived by her devoted children: her son Daniel and his wife Sue-Ellen, her daughter Dorothy and her husband Samuel, and her daughter April. Her family extended beyond her human kin to include her cherished fur babies, Kruger, Itty Bitty, Donkey, Shrek, and Moolie-O, who brought joy and companionship to her days. After graduating from High Point Senior High, Carol dedicated 27 years of her life to safely transporting the children of Bedford County as a school bus driver. Her commitment to the students she served was just one facet of her nurturing spirit. Faith and community service were central to Carol's life. She was a former member of Sedalia and Big Island Baptist Church before joining Morgans Baptist Church in Moneta. Her involvement in the Women's Missionary Union and the Edith Hicks Circle demonstrated her dedication to her faith and community. A passionate volunteer at The Agape Center, Carol found joy in serving others, embodying the spirit of compassion and generosity. Carol's life was enriched by her hobbies and interests, which included playing card games like Rook and Phase-10 with friends, where her warmth and laughter filled the room. Her love for music, especially The Gaithers, and her interest in shows like Law & Order SVU and the news, showcased a woman with a curious mind and a vibrant personality. Known for her caring nature, Carol was loving and had a touch of stubbornness that endeared her to those who knew her. She was never afraid to express her feelings and was known for her candid conversations, often giving her son-in-law Sam a good-natured ribbing. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she spoke fondly of Jefferson Forest High School and the long bus trips she enjoyed. In honor of Carol's life and legacy, the family requests that donations be made to The Agape Center and the Moneta Rescue Squad, organizations that were dear to her heart. Carol Leslie Utz Brown leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her life was a testament to the power of love and the impact of a generous spirit. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
