Carol Gilbert Stanton
August 9, 1946 — May 12, 2026
Carol Gilbert Stanton, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this life on May 12, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on August 9, 1946, in the heart of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Carol was the cherished daughter of the late Jack W. Gilbert and Virginia L. Gilbert. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Carol was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charles Snow Stanton, with whom she shared a lifetime of cherished memories, and her beloved son, Justin Paul Stanton, whose spirit she carried with her every day. She is survived by her son, Matthew Blair Stanton and his wife, Sarah; her daughter, Ashley Elizabeth Stanton-Fulton and her husband, Peyton; her sister, Nancy Szymanski and her husband, Daniel; her brother, Byron Gilbert; and her treasured grandchildren, Madison Brooke Fulton, Harper Jane Fulton, Franklin Snow Stanton, and Caroline Stephen Stanton. Carol also leaves behind her dear friend, Sandy Terry, with whom she shared countless conversations and laughs.
Carol's life was enriched by her love for history and her sharp mind, which she kept agile through her passion for solving Sudoku puzzles. Her greatest joy, however, was found in the time she spent with her grandchildren. Whether recounting tales of yesteryears or simply reveling in the laughter and warmth of family, Carol's heart found contentment in these precious moments.
Her home was a haven of warmth where stories were shared, lessons were imparted, and love was abundant. Carol's presence was a guiding light for her family, whose lives she nurtured with unwavering support and encouragement. Her legacy of compassion, kindness, and strength will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
In keeping with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate Carol's life and her indelible impact on those who knew her. Her family invites those who wish to honor her memory to reflect on the moments of joy and wisdom she shared, and to carry forward her spirit of love and understanding.
As we bid farewell to Carol, we remember her not for her departure, but for the vibrant life she lived, the love she gave, and the memories she leaves behind. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends, guiding them with the same grace and love that defined her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice in Carol's honor, celebrating her life through acts of kindness and generosity.
May her soul find eternal peace and her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
