January 24, 1957 — May 9, 2026
It is with deep sorrow yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived, that we announce the passing of Carol Dean, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Carol peacefully departed this world on May 9, 2026, at the age of 69, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, love, and dedication.
Born on January 24, 1957, in the vibrant city of Atlanta, Georgia, Carol was welcomed into the world by her loving parents, Eugene and Nelly Gasaway. She was a spirited child with an insatiable curiosity and a heart full of dreams. Her early years were shaped by the values instilled by her parents, and she carried their teachings with grace throughout her life.
Carol was a proud alumna of Nurnberg American High School, where she graduated in 1975. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Preston College, where she further honed her skills and nurtured her passion for education. This passion for learning and teaching became the cornerstone of her career.
For many years, Carol dedicated herself to shaping young minds at Hand Middle School. As an educator, she was not only a teacher but a mentor and guide to countless students. Her classroom was a haven of encouragement and inspiration, where she helped students discover their potential and motivated them to strive for excellence. Carol's colleagues and students alike remember her for her unwavering dedication, infectious enthusiasm, and the genuine care she extended to all who crossed her path.
Carol's heart and home were always open to her family. She was the beloved mother of her son, Jimmy Dean, whose life she enriched with her unwavering support and unconditional love. Her role as a grandmother to Jazmine, Sierra, Alana, and Thomas, and a great-grandmother to one precious great-grandchild, brought her immense joy and fulfillment. Carol's grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent in their company, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
In addition to her immediate family, Carol is survived by her brother Jim, sister Susan, niece Megan, and nephew Brandon. Her family was her anchor, and she was theirs—a source of strength and comfort through life's ebbs and flows.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Nelly Gasaway, and her niece Jamie Gasaway. Though her earthly presence will be deeply missed, the love and wisdom she imparted will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Beyond her professional and familial pursuits, Carol found joy in simple pleasures. She loved gardening, where she found solace and connection with nature, and her vibrant blooms were a testament to her nurturing spirit. An avid reader, Carol was rarely found without a book in hand, always eager to explore new worlds and ideas through literature.
As we celebrate Carol's life, we are reminded of her selflessness, her unwavering optimism, and her belief in the goodness of others. Her legacy is one of compassion and resilience, and her spirit will forever remain a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and share stories of the profound impact she had on their lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Carol's name to a charity supporting education, a cause she held dear to her heart.
Rest in peace, dear Carol. Your journey here may have ended, but your legacy of love and kindness will forever continue.
