In Loving Memory

Carol B Konnerth
February 7, 1932 — March 21, 2026
In loving memory of Carol B. Konnerth, the Konnerth family announces with heavy hearts her peaceful passing on March 21, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on February 7, 1932, in Baldwin, NY, Carol was a beacon of love, laughter, and wisdom to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She left this world surrounded by the love and warmth of her family after complications following a hip fracture.
Carol was the cherished daughter of Elizabeth Mary Bennetter and Karl Waldemar Bennetter. A brilliant mind from an early age, she graduated as Valedictorian from Baldwin High School in 1950. She further honed her skills at the esteemed Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, where her talents caught the attention of Clare Boothe Luce, leading to a position at Time Magazine. Carol's early career was marked by a dedication to excellence and an innate ability to connect with those around her.
In 1953, Carol married the love of her life, Rudolph "Rudi" A. Konnerth, Jr., affectionately known as her 'Schatzie'. Their marriage, a testament to enduring love and partnership, spanned an incredible 72 years. Together, they moved to Islip, where they lovingly raised their three children: Lex (and wife Jane), Merilyn, and Lisa (and husband Randy Peabody). As partners in life and business, Carol and Rudi purchased and operated the beloved local establishment, Gerard Drugs, serving the Islip community with care and commitment for over 35 years. Their dedication to the well-being of others became a cornerstone of their legacy.
Carol's life was a symphony of service and passion. As the organist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Islip, she filled the sanctuary with music and joy, leaving an indelible mark on the congregation. Her active participation in the church community exemplified her deep faith and dedication to service. Carol's natural charm and intuition made her a confidante to many. She was known for her quick smile, infectious laughter, and the wise counsel she offered with sincerity and love.
Her family was the heart of her world, and she embraced her role as a nurturing matriarch with grace and devotion. Carol leaves behind her beloved husband Rudi, her children, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to grow through them, as they carry forward the values she instilled.
In accordance with Carol's wishes, there will be a private ceremony to honor her life. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have reached out with condolences and support. A gathering to celebrate Carol's memory is planned for late spring. Those who wish to be notified of the date are invited to contact one of her daughters.
As we remember Carol, we celebrate a life lived with grace, love, and unwavering dedication to family and community. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her memory will forever remain a guiding light in our hearts.
