Carol Annette Marshall Clark
February 6, 1957 — May 16, 2026
It is with heavy hearts yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Carol Annette Marshall Clark. Carol departed this world on May 16, 2026, after a courageous and graceful battle with cancer. She was 69 years old.
Born on February 6, 1957, in Hampton, Virginia, to Mary Debose Clark and Robert Clark, Carol embodied a radiant spirit and a loving heart from an early age. Growing up in a family that cherished close bonds, Carol was deeply influenced by the warmth and wisdom of her late mother, Mary.
Carol's journey of education includes Robert E Lee High School—now known as Riverside High School—in Jacksonville, Florida, where she graduated in 1975. Her pursuit of knowledge and dedication to her future led her to the esteemed Hampton Institute, now Hampton University, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in 1979. It was at Hampton that she became a cherished member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., joining in the Spring of 1977. Her involvement with the sorority was profound, lasting a lifetime, and was a testament to her unwavering commitment to sisterhood and service.
Carol's career was marked by dedication and perseverance. She contributed her talents to Xerox in Rochester, New York, and later to Pitney Bowes in Jacksonville, Florida. Her professional journey culminated in a fulfilling career at Zurich Life Insurance Company in Jacksonville, where she eventually retired. Carol was revered for her work ethic, integrity, and the warmth she brought to her professional relationships.
Beyond her professional achievements, Carol's life was a tapestry of meaningful connections and joyous experiences. She was a devoted mother to her son, Joseph Marshall, nurturing him with endless love and creating cherished memories through their travels and shared adventures, particularly their trip to Las Vegas. As a sister, Carol was a beacon of support and love to her sister Sharon Clark Bailey and Sharon's family. Her role as an aunt to Amber Sharpe, Erin Bailey, Donovan Cassetana, Christian Cassetana, and Brianna Sharpe was filled with affection and joy, as she embraced each moment spent with her great nieces and nephews.
Carol's friends, classmates, Sorors from Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., and fellow Hamptonians found in her a steadfast companion, always ready to lend an ear, offer encouragement, and celebrate life's milestones. Her vibrant personality, often described as "a Sweetheart," "Upbeat," "Positive," "Wonderful," and "a Caring Spirit," left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her sorority, Carol was deeply committed to the Hampton University Alumni Association, serving as President of the Jacksonville, Florida Chapter with devotion and distinction. Her leadership and dedication were instrumental in fostering connections and community among alumni.
While Carol's journey on this earth has come to a close, her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her surviving family—her son Joseph, her sister Sharon, and her extended family—will forever cherish the memories and love she imparted. Her close friends and community will remember her as a beacon of positivity and kindness.
In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Carol's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who wish to honor Carol's memory to consider a donation to a cancer research organization or a charity of their choice in her name.
Carol Annette Marshall Clark's life was a testament to love, resilience, and the enduring power of community. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who were blessed to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.
