In Loving Memory of Carmen Sanchez It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Carmen Sanchez, who departed this world on April 16, 2026, at the age of 96. Carmen was born on February 1, 1930, in the picturesque town of Naguabo, Puerto Rico, to her loving parents, the late Carmelo Sanchez and Petra Couvertier. Her life was a testament to love, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. Carmen was a beacon of kindness and warmth, known by all for her radiant smile and generous spirit. She spent her early years in Puerto Rico, where she graduated from Rafael Roca High School in 1948, before pursuing her passion for education at the University of Puerto Rico Recinto Rio Piedras, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education. In a love story worthy of the ages, Carmen married Juan I. Rodriguez on December 25, 1949, in Naguabo. Together for 63 beautiful years, they created a nurturing home filled with laughter, love, and adventure. Carmen and Juan raised three wonderful children, and their legacy of love continues to flourish through their descendants. Carmen dedicated 30 years of her life to shaping young minds as an inspiring teacher before retiring as a librarian in 1985. Her career was marked by her caring and supportive nature, leaving an indelible impression on countless students. She was a cherished member of her community, known for her wisdom, advice, and captivating stories, which she always shared with a loving heart. A devout Catholic, Carmen led a life guided by faith, instilling these values in her family and those around her. Her membership in the Church was a cornerstone of her life, and she found great joy in her daily devotions and attending Mass. Carmen had a variety of passions that brought joy to her life. She tended to her garden with care, created beautiful crochet pieces, and delighted in cooking for her loved ones. She cherished spending time with her extensive family, including her 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Predeceased by her parents, siblings, and her oldest son, Juan, Carmen is survived by her devoted daughters, Carmen Rodriguez and Ivette Gonzalez, along with their children and grandchildren. Her son's children and their families also carry forward her legacy. Carmen's circle of love extended to many friends she met through her church and at her care home, each touched by her kindness and compassion. Carmen's life will be celebrated on May 5, 2026, at 12:10 PM at St. Pius Catholic Church. We invite all who knew her to join us in honoring a remarkable woman whose love and warmth will forever remain in our hearts. Though we mourn her passing, we find solace in the wonderful memories she leaves behind and the assurance that she is now resting peacefully with her Lord. Carmen Sanchez’s life was a true blessing to all who knew her, and her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire us all.
