It is with heavy hearts and loving memories that we announce the passing of Carmen Barbato, who departed this life on September 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family at Upstate Hospital in Syracuse, the city of his birth. Born on June 5, 1940, Carmen lived a life that was as full as it was fulfilling, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love.
Carmen was predeceased by his beloved parents, Carmelo and Grace Barbato, and his cherished siblings, Marilyn and Patrick Barbato. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carole, with whom he shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a family that includes their four children: Paul (Renée), Michael (Helen), Dawn (Gregory) Eberl, and Carmen (Jen). His family grew to include ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
Carmen served his country with honor as a member of the United States Air Force for four years, an experience that shaped his values of discipline and service. Following his military service, he dedicated over 50 years of his career to the automobile industry, where his work ethic and commitment were evident to all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
A man of faith, Carmen was an active and faithful member of St Elizabeth Ann Seton church, where he found community and spiritual solace. His hobbies, which included painting and woodworking, were expressions of his creativity and love for life. However, it was his family that truly captured his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Carmen was known for his quick wit and warm smiles, traits that endeared him to everyone he met. He was a man of integrity, dependability, and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His presence made the world a better place, and those who knew him were truly fortunate.
To honor Carmen's memory, donations may be made to Francis House in Syracuse, NY, an organization close to his heart. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy will be cherished for generations to come.
