Carmella Lewis

March 4, 1960 — April 13, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carmella Lewis, who departed this world peacefully on April 13, 2026, at the Cleveland Clinic, following a brave and determined battle against cancer. Born on March 4, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, Carmella was a beacon of strength, humor, and unwavering love to all who knew her. Carmella was the cherished daughter of Williene and the late Edward Sledge. She was a devoted mother to her beloved children, Monique Duncan and Anthony Glenn Lewis II, and a doting grandmother to A'Laisia, Isaiah, and Ashton, whose lives she filled with joy and guidance. Her siblings, Carl Sledge (Darlene), Carolyn Sledge, and Cathy Holmes (Brian), will forever cherish the memories of their sister, whose laughter and spirit enriched their lives. Carmella also leaves behind a large extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles, and countless friends who were blessed to have known her. Carmella's journey in education and career was marked by determination and hard work. She attended John F. Kennedy High School and later obtained her GED from Tri-C. Her thirst for knowledge and skill led her to achieve her CDLs, Class B, paving the way for a fulfilling career. For many years, she dedicated herself to the service of others as a school bus driver in Cleveland and later as a driver for Marta bus transit in Atlanta, GA. Her most recent endeavor was as a Line Operator at Amazon, where her strong work ethic and resilience were admired by all her coworkers. A woman of deep faith, Carmella was an active member of The Word Church, where she found solace and community. She was known for her regular tithing and her dedication to her spiritual journey. Her love for gospel music and her admiration for Pastor Vernon were a constant source of inspiration in her life. In her personal life, Carmella was known for her vibrant personality and her ability to bring laughter and warmth to any room. Her strong-willed, bossy nature was a testament to her realist outlook on life, always telling it like it was. Her sense of humor and quick wit left lasting impressions on everyone she met. Outside of her professional and spiritual commitments, Carmella found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was passionate about her game shows, often found cheering on contestants with enthusiasm and delight. Her love for gospel music was a constant companion, uplifting her spirit during challenging times. Carmella Lewis lived a life full of purpose, strength, and love. Her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we honor the life of this remarkable woman, we find comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. A celebration of Carmella's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to remember and honor the incredible life she led. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The Word Church in Carmella's memory. Rest in peace, dear Carmella. You fought the good fight, and your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
