Carmella J. Carter

Carmella J. Carter, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on August 20, 2026. Born on July 16, 1939, in the small town of Salmon, Idaho, Carmella was the cherished daughter of Arthur and Helen Piva. Her family relocated to Park City, Utah where she attended school at Marsac Elementary and Park City High School. In 1956 Carmella married Michael F. Byer, with whom she shared seven wonderful children. She loved raising her children and found that she especially loved to cook, with baking being her specialty. Carmella was also a passionate seamstress, at times making something out of nothing. As her children grew older and she had more free time her love of sewing grew, with her eventually adding quilting and machine embroidery to her skills. She loved all types of crafting and was exceptionally adept at woodworking and painting. After the passing of her first husband, Carmella found love once again with her devoted spouse, David Carter. With David, she discovered a new joy in traveling, going wherever the sun would shine, and creating beautiful memories together. Carmella was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Helen Piva, her first husband Michael Byer, and her son Michael Jr. She is survived by her loving husband, David Carter; her children Sissie Graham (Daryl), Victor Byer (Lori), Linda Tatomer (Bill), Susan Hall, Carmella Bovi, and Bobbie Hughes (Lee); and her brother Arthur Piva (Polly). She is also survived by her 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A service to honor Carmella’s life will be held on September 3, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the Church Angels Funeral Home, located at 6301 Granbury Road, Suite 1, Fort Worth, TX 76132. At this time the family graciously suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice, in memory of Carmella. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful nurses at the Texas Hospice House in Huguley, Texas, where Carmella was provided such comfort and gentle care during her final days.
