Carmella Barrance

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carmella Barrance, who departed this world on September 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. Born on September 22, 1960, in Houston, Texas, Carmella was a beacon of love and light to all who knew her. Carmella was the cherished daughter of the late Ora Stean Barrance and Eugene Norris. She was lovingly predeceased by her grandmother Bell Barrance and her brothers Curtis Spillman and Clifton Barrance. She is survived by her beloved siblings: Denise Barrance, Kenneth Barrance Sr., Timothy Winston, and William Winston. Carmella was blessed with an extended family, including her dear Aunt Bertha Mae, and numerous nieces, nephews, and a great-nephew: Collett, Pommie Spilman, Kenneth Barrance Jr., Kristopher Barrance, Timell, Timothy, Markee, Mark, Tony, and Marc Anthony Barrance III. Her longtime companion, Robert Whitely, stood by her side, sharing years filled with love and cherished memories. Carmella's life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to education and personal growth. A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, she excelled in sports such as volleyball and tennis, graduating with the highest honors. Her pursuit of knowledge continued at Weatherford College, where she became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa fraternity and the Order of the Eastern Star, also serving as her mother's little P.T.A. helper. Professionally, Carmella excelled as a Supervisor at Telle Systems and was a dedicated employee of the USPS and the Metropolitan Transit Authority. Her colleagues remember her fondly for her kindness and the genuine respect she garnered from all who knew her. Carmella's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, baptized under the leadership of the late Reverend C.H. Miles and later under Reverend Shannon Oliver. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her service and her life’s work. A lover of family gatherings, card games, dominoes, and travel, Carmella found joy in the company of loved ones. She was known for her clubbing adventures with her cousin Anita, affectionately known as "Cuz." Her caring spirit and readiness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. A service to celebrate Carmella's remarkable life will be held on October 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the O.W. Wiley Mortuary, located at 1290 Pinemount Drive. Her family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Special thanks to O.W. Wiley Mortuary for their compassionate care in laying Carmella to rest. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Carmella's memory to a charitable organization of your choice. Carmella's presence in our lives was a gift, and though she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to guide us. Her kindness, love, and generosity will forever be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
