In Loving Memory

Carlyle Edward Stone
March 11, 1960 — October 26, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Carlyle Edward Stone, who departed this world peacefully on October 26, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife, Jovelyn. Carlyle, a beloved husband, father, and friend, fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, demonstrating the same strength and resilience that characterized his entire life.
Born on March 11, 1960, in Sayre, Pennsylvania, Carlyle was the cherished son of Carlyle Arthur Stone and Jean Marie Walters, both of whom predeceased him. He was the beloved brother of Stephen Stone. Carlyle's life journey was marked by a deep devotion to his family, his faith, and his country.
Carlyle's formative years were spent in Towanda, where he graduated from Towanda High School in 1978. He pursued higher education with passion, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Biblical and Theology Studies, which fueled his lifelong commitment to his faith. Carlyle's spiritual journey was enriched by his active involvement in the Pentecostal Church, where he served as a Fellowship Coordinator and Cook, and shared his musical talents as part of the Worship Team.
In 1987, Carlyle answered the call to serve his country and embarked on a distinguished 20-year career in the United States Air Force. Rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant, Carlyle's service took him across the globe, including postings in Egypt, Qatar, Japan, and beyond. His dedication and exemplary service earned him numerous commendations, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, among others.
In the midst of his military career, Carlyle found the love of his life, marrying Jovelyn Difuntorum on July 15, 1998, in Batangas, Philippines. Together, they shared 28 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their two children, Alexis Dela Serna and Julian Stone. Carlyle and Jovelyn built a home where family was cherished, and their garden blossomed, a testament to their shared love and dedication.
After retiring from the Air Force in 2007, Carlyle continued to serve his community as a Custodian at Piedmont Elementary School in Dandridge, where he worked until his permanent retirement in 2021. His thoughtful nature and warm smile made a lasting impact on colleagues and students alike.
Carlyle was a man of many talents and interests. An avid collector of instruments, he was a talented musician, producer, and lyricist, drawing inspiration from his faith and favorite artists like The Beatles and Eric Clapton. Carlyle's quick wit and love for a good joke endeared him to all who knew him. He delighted in watching baseball, favoring the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees and bringing laughter to family gatherings and in playing friendly pranks on loved ones.
Above all, Carlyle will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to making everyone feel welcome and valued. His legacy is one of love and compassion, a testament to a life filled with purpose and joy.
Carlyle is survived by his loving wife, Jovelyn, their children, Alexis and Julian, and his brother, Stephen. His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
