It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carlton Wayne Harris, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who left us on June 4, 2026, at the age of 84. Carlton was born on December 24, 1941, in Nocatee, Florida, to his loving parents, Reverend C.D. Harris and Eula Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Jackie Harris Morris and Pat Harris Sleepe, and his brother Donnie Harris. Carlton’s journey through life was marked by his deep love for family, a pioneering spirit in his career, and a passion for music and community. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Sue Cannon Harris, and their cherished children Suzanne Moseley, Wayne Harris, Evie Cummings, and Matt Harris. His legacy continues through his nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. A graduate of Cocoa Beach High School’s class of 1965, Carlton went on to attend Lee College, where he showcased his musical talent as the first chair trumpet, earning multiple state competition awards. His love for music was a constant source of energy and joy throughout his life, and he never missed an opportunity to share a good meal surrounded by family and friends. Carlton’s career in the wholesale furniture industry spanned over five decades, where he played a pioneering role in establishing and expanding the furniture rent-to-own industry. His influence in the field is a testament to his visionary approach, and his legacy will continue to be felt by all those who had the privilege of working alongside him. Beyond his professional achievements, Carlton had a deep love for the local church and a special heart for ministry. He was an encourager and supporter to many who served, embodying a spirit of generosity and community. His larger-than-life presence, quick wit, and genuine interest in others allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Carlton truly never met a stranger—only friends he hadn't gotten to know yet. A natural leader and entrepreneur, Carlton approached every challenge with vision, determination, and confidence. Blessed with the gift of gab, he had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome, valued, and heard. His charisma and generous spirit inspired those around him and brought people together, cementing his legacy as a man who truly knew how to build relationships and inspire community. A service to celebrate Carlton’s remarkable life will be held on June 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone Church of God, located at 10 S Seminole Ave, Fort Meade, FL 33841.
