It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Carlos Kenneth Sims, who departed this world on May 1, 2026, at the age of 74. Carlos passed away unexpectedly due to an illness that many of us did not know he had. Though his departure was sudden, we find solace in the cherished memories and enduring legacy he leaves behind. Carlos was born on July 1, 1951, in the vibrant city of Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Emory Sims Sr. and Minister Mary K. Sims. He was a beloved son and Brother to Vito, Nardico, Patricia Johnson, Maria Katina Zellers, Sandra Love, Rena Mason, Daphne Byrd and Zoie Sims. His life was a testament to love, music, and laughter. As a young man, Carlos was educated at John Marshall High School, where he not only excelled academically but also discovered his lifelong passion for music. In the mid-1980s, Carlos embarked on a vibrant musical journey, forming a band named Jake and Eddie. His talents were boundless, and he became known for his extraordinary ability to perform, sing, and play both the drums and guitar. When Carlos took the stage, it was more than just a performance; it was a captivating show that left audiences enthralled. His love for singing and writing music was a constant in his life, as was his penchant for bringing joy and laughter to those around him with his funny and exuberant personality. Carlos was a man who wore many hats, both literally and figuratively. He worked tirelessly in the construction industry, a testament to his unwavering work ethic and dedication. Yet, it was through his music that he truly expressed his soul, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of hearing him play. Carlos's personal life was rich and full. In partnership with Lois M. Chaney, affectionately known as Winkie or Marilyn, he welcomed 11 children into the world. With his late wife, Brenda Sims, Carlos shared the joy of one child. Though predeceased by his cherished daughter Carlita (Tee-Tee) Chaney, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her.
