Carlos Gonzales
December 12, 1944 — September 28, 2026
Carlos Gonzales, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026. Born on December 12, 1944, in Lordsburg, New Mexico, Carlos lived a life marked by service, love, and integrity.
Carlos was the cherished son of Nicanor Gonzales and Evangeline Hernandez-Gonzales. Born in Lordsburg New Mexico he spent his early years in Phoenix before embarking on a journey that would define his life. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, achieving the rank of Sergeant. His time stationed at Fort Bliss as part of the Military Police laid a foundation for his future career in law enforcement.
For two decades, Carlos served as a respected officer with the Phoenix Police Department. He was not only a skilled firearms instructor and trainer but also an interpreter, utilizing his talents to bridge gaps and foster understanding. His colleagues and community remember him as a man of unwavering integrity and compassion, known for his ability to remain calm in the face of adversity and his gift for resolving conflicts with patience and respect.
On July 17, 1970, Carlos married the love of his life, Jo Elaine Gonzales. Together, they shared 56 wonderful years, raising three children—Dan, Laura, and Rachel (deceased)—and welcoming three grandchildren, Madison, Zack, and Mikella, into their lives. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Carlos was an avid fisherman and hunter, finding peace and joy in the great outdoors. These hobbies reflected his love for nature and his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Carlos is survived by his devoted wife, Jo Elaine; his son, Dan Gonzales; his daughter, Laura Gonzales-Scrabeck; his siblings, Dan Gonzales, Rachel Ruby, and Becky Gonzales; and his three treasured grandchildren.
