Carlos Dexter Lowery Jr.
March 30, 1929 — June 1, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Carlos Dexter Lowery Jr., who departed this life peacefully at his home in Moscow, Tennessee, on June 1, 2026, at the age of 97. Carlos, born on March 30, 1929, in Memphis, Tennessee, was the son of the late Carlos Dexter Lowery, Sr. and the late Irene (Holder) Lowery Parr. Throughout his long and fruitful life, Carlos embodied the virtues of hard work, dedication, and love for family and community.
Carlos was the beloved husband of the late Peggy Kelley Lowery, with whom he shared over 60 beautiful years of marriage. Their love story was one of unwavering devotion and partnership, marked by the joy of raising their two children, Carla and Dexter, who carry forward their parents' legacy of kindness and integrity. He was also predeceased by his dear sister, Nelda Bomar.
Carlos proudly served his country in the United States Army, a testament to his dedication and service to others. After his service, he embarked on a professional journey that would impact countless lives. Alongside Peggy, he owned and operated Lowery Optical Dispensary as a skilled optician for over 45 years. Through their work, they not only provided vision care but also nurtured a community, offering comfort and camaraderie to all who walked through their doors.
Carlos's life was enriched by his passion for the outdoors, particularly his love for gardening and the tranquility of country living. Known as the grill master on Tuesday nights for the cantina at Goulds arena, he cherished the laughter and stories shared over the sizzle of the grill. His greatest joy, however, was the time spent with his cherished family—his daughter Carla (Sonny) Gould of Moscow, TN, his son Dexter (Suzanne) Lowery of Cordova, TN, his five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. His legacy is woven into the lives of the generations he nurtured and inspired.
In accordance with Carlos's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 330729, Nashville, TN 37203, and Isaiah 117 House, 4488 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38117. These organizations reflect the causes dear to Carlos and the compassion he extended to others.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their support and condolences. They take comfort in knowing that Carlos's loving spirit will continue to guide them. Halls Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Carlos Dexter Lowery Jr.
As we bid farewell to Carlos, we remember him not with sorrow, but with the warmth and love he bestowed upon all who knew him. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, family, and commitment. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts.
