Carla Williams Chambliss

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude that we celebrate the life of Carla Williams Chambliss, a remarkable woman whose legacy of love, laughter, and learning will forever be cherished. Carla was born on July 6, 1950, in Oakland, California, to her beloved parents, Lucille and Charles Williams. She departed this world peacefully on July 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered by all who knew her. Carla's early years were marked by a thirst for knowledge and a commitment to education. She pursued her dreams at Edward Waters College and went on to earn her Master's Degree from Florida A&M University. Her dedication to the field of education spanned over 35 years, during which she touched countless lives. Carla's classroom was more than a place of learning; it was a nurturing environment where she inspired students to find their passions and achieve their dreams. Her greatest joy came from witnessing the moments of discovery and academic breakthroughs that changed the lives of her students. A woman of faith, Carla was a devoted member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church in her early years and later found a spiritual home at St. Paul AME Church. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, informing her choices and actions. Outside the classroom, Carla embraced life with a vibrant spirit. She was an adventurous soul who loved setting sail on cruises and exploring new destinations. Her infectious joy made every outing an occasion, and she was known for her love of shopping at her favorite stores like Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Burdines, Belks, Dillards, and JCPenney. Carla's laughter was contagious, and her joy for life was a gift to all who knew her. Her friends were friends for life, and her genuine, loving nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was a treasured mother, friend, and cousin, and her presence will be sorely missed. Carla's life was touched by both joy and sorrow. She was predeceased by her parents, Lucille and Charles Williams, and her eldest son, Max Hawkins II. She is survived by her cherished son, Alfred Chambliss, her loving cousin Dionne Carter, and a close-knit circle of relatives and friends who were blessed to share in her journey. A service to honor and celebrate Carla's life will be held on August 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul AME Church, located at 6910 New Kings Road, Jacksonville, Florida, 32219. The family invites all who knew Carla to join them in remembering her remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice, in memory of Carla Williams Chambliss. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Carla was a blessing in more ways than one, and her bright spirit will remain with us all forever. May her memory be a guiding light, reminding us to live fully and love deeply.
