July 9, 1938 — October 20, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carl Richard "Dick" Stanton, who left this world peacefully at his home on October 20, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on July 9, 1938, in Roanoke, Virginia, Dick was the cherished son of John and Anna Mae Stanton. He was predeceased by his beloved parents and his dear sister, Joan Stanton. Dick's life was a testament to love, dedication, and service. On November 6, 1960, he married the love of his life, Laura Lee Ireland, embarking on a journey that would span 65 beautiful years. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter. Dick is survived by his devoted wife, Laura, and their children: Janet Stanton Moffitt and husband, Rev. Greg Moffitt; Christy Stanton Young and husband, Keith Young; Temple Stanton Harding and husband, Mark Harding; and Gwendolyn Stanton Whitfield and husband, Rev. Morgan Whitfield. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of immense joy and pride. Dick's life was one of service and achievement. After graduating from Jefferson High School in 1956, he pursued a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech, graduating in 1965. His early career as a mechanical engineer evolved into a successful venture as the owner of Snelling and Snelling franchise in Memphis, Tennessee, for 25 years. A man of deep faith, Dick was an active member of Bartlett Baptist Church and Balboa Baptist Church, and he shared his love for Christ with all those he met. His commitment to community was further exemplified through his involvement with organizations such as Tip Masters, Dale Carnegie, and the Jaycees. Dick was a man of many talents and interests. An avid golfer, he found joy on the courses where he shared time with his friends and grandsons. He was a skilled woodworker, creating beautiful farm tables and cabinets, and was known as a "jack of all trades" who could fix anything. Dick's passion for craftsmanship led him to building custom furniture for Arkansas Furniture. His infectious spirit and zest for life made him the life of any party, and he was always ready with a snack and a smile. A service to celebrate Dick's life will be held on October 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Second Presbyterian Church Chapel, located at 4055 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38111. Please park the west parking lot near the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, to honor Dick's memory and his love for the mission of St. Jude. Dick's legacy of love, faith, and joy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
