Carl Olin Blaylock

September 12, 1934 — May 17, 2026

Carl Olin Blaylock, a cherished son, brother, husband, uncle, and friend, peacefully departed this world on the 17th of May, 2026, at his beloved home overlooking hole #2, at the age of 91. Born on September 12, 1934, in Chester, South Carolina, Carl's life was a testament to love, friendship, and unwavering dedication to those around him. Carl was the beloved son of James Franklin and Estelle Poston Blaylock, whose memory he carried with him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Taylor Blaylock, whom he married on August 3, 1962. Together, they shared an adventurous life filled with travel, friendships, and the joys of country club living, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. A proud alum of Chester High School's Class of 1952, Carl continued his education at Clemson University before graduating from The University of South Carolina in 1956. His career took him to INA Insurance Company and Xerox, ultimately leading him to Columbia, where he found his professional calling at McWaters Office Outfitters. Demonstrating impeccable business acumen, Carl purchased the company and successfully ran it until his well-deserved retirement in 1993. Carl's life was enriched by his active involvement in the Centennial ARP Church in Columbia, where he found spiritual grounding and community. His passion for golf was unparalleled, having played courses all over the United States and the Caribbean. As the last surviving member of the original Spring Valley Country Club Board, Carl's love for the sport was evident to all who knew him. His interests extended beyond the greens; Carl was a devoted fan of horse racing, at one point owning the Tookie Doo Stables in Blythewood. He proudly co-owned a horse with the late Joe Morrison, which raced in New York, adding another chapter of excitement to his life. A fervent supporter of the South Carolina Gamecocks, Carl's enthusiasm for sports was contagious. Carl's southern charm, quick wit, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life left an indelible mark on everyone he met. His laughter was infectious, and his generosity and kindness touched countless lives. Whether on the golf course, at the racetrack, or fishing along the South Carolina coast with his good friend Clay Livingston, Carl was a beacon of joy and warmth. He is survived by his sister, Jimmie B. Stewart, and a host of nephews and nieces who adored him: Fred O. Stewart, Jr. (Sandra), Reginald Ramsey (Eliza), Dana Sloan (Dean), Leigh Taylor (Bob), and Sheila Stewart. His extended family includes his sister-in-law, Francis Taylor Ramsey (Reggie), brother-in-law, Tommy Taylor (Jane Doe), and many cherished friends and neighbors who enriched his life. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in Carl's care during his final days. Your kindness and support have been invaluable. As we gather to celebrate Carl's remarkable life, let us remember him for the love and laughter he shared and the lasting impact he had on those fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Jean, and continue to oversee the fairways from above.
