LIFE Reflections Carl E. Young Sr. age 79, of Ben Wheeler, Texas, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and devotion to family. He was born on December 12, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Hartense Young Palmer. Carl was the eldest of his siblings and carried that role with strength and responsibility throughout his we At an early age, Carl relocated to Ben Wheeler, Texas, where he built a life rooted in community and family. He was united in marriage to Herlean Jackson, and to this union two daughters were born: Venida Banks and Theresa Young. Later in life, Carl married the love of his life, Mary Bagley Young, on October 5, 1979. Through this marriage, he gained a blended family that included three daughters, Velesha McCalister, Michaela McCalister, and Kay McCalister, and one son, Ronald Earl Crawford. Carl was a faithful and dedicated member of Prairie Creek CME Church, where he served diligently as a Deacon and Trustee. His faith and commitment to service were evident in all that he did. Known as a hardworking and dependable man, Carl spent many years providing for his family through various roles. He worked at Wayne Feed, later retired from Tyler Pipe, served with the City of Tyler, and eventually retired from UT Health (ETMC). Carl was truly a jack of all trades there was little he could not fix or build. He was especially proud of his work as a welder and took great joy in maintaining his farm. He was preceded in death by his mother: Hartense Young Palmer, as well as his siblings: Linda Colemen and Altha Dell Mitchell and his beloved dogs: Louie, Bently & Sweetie. Carl leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife: Mary Bagley Young; children: Venida Banks, Theresa Young, Velesha McCalister, Michaela McCalister, Kay McCalister, and Ronald Earl Crawford; brothers: Ray Young and Leslie Donald Ford (Dawn); and sisters: Gloria Jean and Sharon Tate. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. Carl will be remembered for his strength, skillful hands, unwavering work ethic, and the love he gave so freely to his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in all who knew and loved him.
