Captain Ray Babineau, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 24, 1931, in Palmer, Massachusetts, Ray's life was a tapestry woven with dedication, adventure, and love. In 1952, Ray answered the call of duty and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Over two decades, he served with honor and distinction, ultimately retiring in 1972 as a Captain. His time in the Corps left an indelible mark on his character, instilling a sense of discipline and loyalty that defined his life. After his military service, Ray found solace and joy in the pristine rivers and landscapes of Montana. For the last 45 years, he shared his passion for the great outdoors as an avid fishing guide. Ray was known far and wide for his unparalleled knowledge of fishing and fly tying. His hands deftly crafted intricate flies that danced across the water, a testament to his skill and patience. Ray's love for the art of storytelling was legendary. He could often be found by the riverbank, sharing tales of adventure and camaraderie with an enthralled audience. His stories brought laughter and camaraderie to all who listened, leaving smiles and cherished memories in their wake. Ray's legacy lives on in his devoted wife of 43 years, Sharon, who stood by his side through life's many adventures. Together, they created a family filled with love and resilience. He is survived by his children, Duane Babineau, Lisa Myers, Darren and Susan Hotman, and Brian and Melinda Hotman, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom carries forward a piece of his spirit. Though Ray has cast his last line, his spirit will forever glide along the rivers of Montana, in the hearts of those who knew him, and in the breeze that whispers through the trees he loved so dearly. Captain Ray Babineau will be remembered not just for the life he led, but for the lives he touched with his kindness, his wisdom, and his unwavering love for family and nature. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Ray's name to a conservation charity, ensuring that the natural beauty he cherished may thrive for generations to come. A private celebration of his extraordinary life will be held by the family in a place close to Ray's heart. May he rest in peace, forever casting his line into the endless river of eternity.
