Captain Ray Babineau

April 24, 1931 — April 15, 2026

Captain Ray Babineau, a beloved husband, devoted father, and seasoned fisherman, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at the age of 94, with his cherished family by his side. Born on April 24, 1931, in the quaint town of Palmer, Massachusetts, Ray lived a life rich with adventure, love, and dedication. Ray's early years were marked by a commitment to his country. He valiantly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 until his retirement in 1972, achieving the respected rank of Captain. His 20 years of military service were a testament to his unwavering dedication, discipline, and leadership—a foundation that would guide him throughout his life. In 1983, Ray found his heart's companion in Sharon, his devoted wife of 43 years. Together, they built a family and a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Ray is survived by Sharon, who stood by his side through life's many adventures, as well as his children: Duane Babineau, Lisa Myers, Darren and Susan Hotman, and Brian and Melinda Hotman. Though Ray leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, their presence in his life brought him immense joy and pride. After retiring from the military, Ray turned his love for the great outdoors into a fulfilling second career. For 45 years, he was an avid fishing guide in the pristine waters of Montana. His extensive knowledge of fishing and fly tying was unmatched, and he generously shared this passion with all who sought his guidance. Ray's fly fishing trips were legendary, not only for the skills he imparted but for the stories he told—each tale more captivating than the last. Ray's hobbies extended beyond fishing; he was an avid hunter and a master storyteller, known for spinning yarns that could entertain an entire room. His tales were as finely crafted as the flies he tied, each one imbued with humor, wisdom, and a touch of his unique charm. Though Ray has cast his final line, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. His life was a tapestry woven with courage, love, and an unyielding zest for life. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, warmth, and the invaluable lesson that life is best lived with a sense of adventure and a good story to share. A celebration of Ray's life will be held in the serene landscapes of Montana that he so dearly loved. Friends and family are invited to honor his memory, share stories, and cherish the indelible mark he left on all who knew him. Ray Babineau will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever guide those who follow in his footsteps.
