With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Caldonia Erby Shannon, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life peacefully at home on March 28, 2026, at the age of 83, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Her final moments were spent surrounded by love and peace, reflecting a life beautifully lived. Born on November 9, 1942, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Caldonia was the cherished daughter of Melvin Erby, Sr. and Sallie Thompson Ashley. Her upbringing in Rock Hill instilled in her strong values and a deep sense of community, qualities she carried throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Henry Shannon, two beloved children, Ricky King, Sr. and Darlene King, and her siblings Alice Tate, Harrison Erby, and Melvin Erby, Jr. Caldonia's legacy is carried on by her surviving children, Vicky King, Timmy King (Carla), Jimmie King (Queen), and Tony King, who will forever cherish her memory and the profound impact she had on their lives. She was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren: Montrey Bost, Sr., Monte King (Shawanna), Shaitha Yeargin, Timetreus Nichols, Sheena R. Lewis (Ron), Sherina Bost, Jamaine King, LeCoCo King Givens, Shamarri King Samedy (Mathias), and Ricky King, Jr., and a great-grandmother to two precious great-grandchildren. Her brothers, Tom Erby and George Erby, along with a host of other relatives and dear friends, will carry her memory in their hearts. Caldonia attended the Rock Hill Public Schools and dedicated many years of service to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Housing Authority and Bayada Nursing, culminating in her work with Visiting Angels. Her career in healthcare was a testament to her nurturing spirit and commitment to serving others. A devoted member of the Berean Seventh Day Adventist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, Caldonia embraced her faith with passion and vigor. She sang with joy on the Gospel Choir, served faithfully on the Usher Board, and imparted wisdom and love as a teacher in the lower Sabbath School Primary class. Her dedication to her faith was unwavering, and she shared the Gospel of the Lord's second coming with all she met, right until her last breath on her cherished Sabbath day. Beyond her church and community contributions, Caldonia was known for her strong, resilient spirit and nurturing nature. She was a quiet force of wisdom, offering advice, sharing stories, and uniting her family through cherished traditions. Her humor was sharp, her personality warm, and her heart full of genuine care, always speaking her mind with honesty and love. A service to honor and celebrate Caldonia's remarkable life will be held on April 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Lowrys, located at 3981 Armenia Rd, Chester, SC 29706. The Shannon and King family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support received during this difficult time. As we gather to remember Caldonia, we celebrate a life marked by faith, love, and unwavering dedication to family and community. Her spirit will undoubtedly continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
