Bruce Walter Raleigh, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on November 10, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, Bruce was the cherished son of Donald Lee Raleigh and Elma Mae Smith Raleigh. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Lee Raleigh. Bruce's life was a testament to dedication, service, and love. After graduating from Lincoln Park High School in 1961, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served as an electronics technician. During his service, he played a critical role during the Cuban Missile Crisis, stationed with the 556 Strategic Missile Squadron in Plattsburgh, New York. His commitment to his country was unwavering from April 1961 until January 20, 1966. Bruce married the love of his life, Edith "Edie" Hunt, on December 14, 1969. Their marriage of over 57 years was a beacon of love and partnership, centered around their faith and family. Together, they raised their daughter, Rebecca Duffield, who, along with her husband Rich, blessed Bruce with two grandchildren, Sawyer and Millie. Bruce's grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Pursuing higher education after his military service, Bruce earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Michigan State University in 1972 and went on to obtain his Doctor of Juris Prudence from the University of Detroit Law School in 1975. His professional career was marked by excellence and integrity. After working in private practice, Bruce joined the United States Army Tank Command as a Contracting Specialist. Over a career that spanned 25 years, Bruce negotiated and managed multi-million-dollar contracts, earning numerous awards for his exceptional work before retiring in 2006. Bruce's love for his community was evident through his active involvement in various organizations. A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Lincoln Park, Michigan, he later joined Woodhaven Bible Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and Elder for over 20 years. At the time of his passing, he was a cherished member of Community Bible Church in Trenton, Michigan. His passion for connecting people led him to establish the 556 SMS Association, bringing together his Air Force comrades for biennial reunions that spanned over two decades. Bruce's dedication to his faith was further demonstrated through his involvement with Bible Study Fellowship. In addition to his community contributions, Bruce embraced a life filled with diverse interests. A physical fitness enthusiast, he enjoyed walking and took up running in his 60s, participating in 8Ks with zeal. He had a keen interest in the stock market and loved engaging in friendly banter, his quick wit and dry humor endearing him to everyone he met. Bruce is survived by his devoted wife, Edie; his loving daughter, Rebecca, and son-in-law, Rich Duffield; his treasured grandchildren, Sawyer and Millie; his sister-in-law, Carolyn Raleigh; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. His gentle and easy-going personality, coupled with a genuine interest in the lives of others, made him beloved by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Community Bible Church in Trenton, Michigan, in Bruce's memory. As we bid farewell to Bruce, we celebrate the remarkable life he led, a life filled with compassion, service, and unwavering love for his family and community.
