Bruce Ray Schmidt

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bruce Ray Schmidt, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world peacefully on July 19, 2026, in hospice care. Bruce's journey began on April 4, 1949, in Minneapolis, MN, born to Ray and Ethel (Spurzem) Schmidt, who precede him in death. His final days were filled with love and serenity, thanks to the compassionate care provided by North Memorial staff and NC Little Hospice. Bruce's life was a testament to the power of love, adventure, and community. He graduated from Lourdes High School in Rochester in 1967 and pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, where he earned a degree in aeronautical engineering. His professional career took a different path, however, as he found great joy and fulfillment working as an over-the-road truck salesman for 45 years. Bruce traveled extensively across the United States, first when delivering Winnebagos, and later exploring and enjoying much of Europe, broadening his horizons and enriching his life with countless stories and experiences. For 42 years, Bruce shared his life with his cherished wife and partner, Pam (Kaiser) Dawson. Together, they built a life centered around family, friends, and their shared love for cabin life. He is survived by sisters Kathy, Yvonne (Mark Toot), and Gayle DeFor (Dale), and brothers Greg and Doug Schmidt—along with numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce's cabin in Wisconsin was more than just a retreat; it was a sanctuary where he hosted countless gatherings of family and lifelong friends, often including 3 generations of families. His patient and generous nature left an indelible mark on all who knew him, and his spirit will forever echo through the woods and waters he so dearly loved. Bruce will be remembered for his warmth, his unwavering kindness, and his ability to bring people together. As we celebrate his life, we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace. A celebration of life for close family and friends is being planned in lieu of a traditional memorial service. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered support during this difficult time. Your love and kindness have been a source of comfort and strength.
