August 12, 1950 — September 29, 2026
Bruce Michael Cook of Lacey, Washington, born August 12, 1950 in Spencer, Wisconsin passed away at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington on September 29, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father and friend.
Bruce was the son of Loraine and Kathleen Cook and brother of Sandra (Gary) Thyes, Keith (Marjorie) Cook, Mark Cook, Vance Cook and Bradley (Pamela) Cook. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Lyle and Elsie (Brake) Cook and Otto and Manda (Ystad) Goehring, as well as his parents, in-laws (Gilbert and Delores (Noeske) Olson), infant daughter Kristin Marie Cook, nephew Nicholas Thyes, aunts and uncles. His family was central to his life, and he held them close to his heart. Bruce is survived by his wife of 53 years (Karen), their son (Zachary), his sister and four brothers, aunt Ruth Anne Snedic, uncle Jerry Goehring, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bruce married Karen Ann Olson on June 2, 1973. They lived in Whitewater, WI initially and later Elkhorn, WI prior to moving to Washington state in 2017. Their son, Zachary, was born in 1990.
Bruce's academic journey began at Spencer High School, where he graduated in 1968. He went on to earn an associate degree in computer science at Wausau Technical College in 1970, where he was recognized in Who's Who in American Junior Colleges. His academic interests led him to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where he studied business and social welfare.
Bruce was employed as a steelworker at the Trent Tube Company for over three decades and later at the Plymouth Tube Company for another decade, both in East Troy, Wisconsin. He worked as a laboratory technician in quality assurance. Bruce was deeply committed to advocating for workers' rights and participating in Steelworkers Union Local 7076, where he served on the board for many years. He also participated in the Rock Walworth Labor Council and he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison School for Workers over the years. Bruce's involvement in the Walworth County Democratic Party was a reflection of his belief in social justice, equality and workers' rights. He aspired to make a difference in his community.
Bruce found joy in his family's dogs, gardening, music and the simple pleasures of life. In retirement, he embraced Tai Chi and enjoyed exploring the breathtaking landscapes of the Pacific Northwest with Karen and Zachary.
As we remember Bruce, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love and service. His memory will remain in our hearts forever. A private service is planned at a later date.
