In Loving Memory of Bruce King
Bruce King, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at his home in Chattaroy, Washington, on the morning of June 24, 2026 with his wife of 65 years, Dorothy, by his side. Born on February 28, 1939, in Spokane, Washington, Bruce lived a life rich with love, laughter, and dedication.
Bruce was the son of Carol Hawks King and Walter King, both of whom preceded him in death, as did his brother David King and brothers-in-law Delbert Daubel, Harold (Bud) Daubel, Vern Petrie, and Don Hayes. He is also reunited with his stillborn children, Kelvin Karl and Angela Lillian, whose memory he held dear.
Bruce's legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Dorothy, and their four children: Kevin (Theresa) King, Shannon (Brian) Sullivan, Derrick (Tracy) King, and Ryan (Carrie) King and his grandchildren, Adam (Nikki), Emily (Sam), Zoe, Sophie, Ava, Elsie, Lexi (Isaac), Trent (Kae), Dillon, and Isabella, along with four great-grandchildren. Bruce's siblings, Paul (Jackie), Roger (Laurel), Karen (Don) Hardies, and Maureen (Gary) Whitcomb, along with his sisters-in-law Verla Hayes and Charlotte Petrie, and brother-in-law Larry Daubel, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved Saturday morning coffee crew, will forever cherish his memory.
Bruce's story began in Spokane, where he graduated from Riverside High School in 1958. It was here that he met the love of his life, Dorothy Daubel, whom he married on September 15, 1960. Together, they built a life on a small farm in Chattaroy, raising their four children with love and laughter. Bruce dedicated 35 years of his professional life to Safeway, where he took immense pride and joy in his work as a truck driver.
Bruce was a man of many passions. An avid fisherman, he competed with enthusiasm and skill, often bringing home stories of the one that got away. He enjoyed hunting, creating whimsical metal yard bird art, and traveling to craft fairs, where he made friends wherever he went. Known for his humor, Bruce was famous for his talent in making a short story long and hard to believe, and for his love of jokes, especially those with a bit of mischief. His yearly gifts of whoopie cushions were a testament to his playful spirit.
Bruce was an active member of his community, participating in organizations like the Shriners, the Eagles Club, Spokane Western Bass Club, and the Spokane Bass Anglers Club, where he made lasting friendships and shared his passions with others.
A celebration of Bruce's life will be held on August 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Fairmount 5200 West Wellesley, Spokane, WA. Family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched are invited to gather and share in the remembrance of a life filled with love and laughter.
Bruce King will be remembered not only for the stories he told and the laughter he shared but for the love he gave so freely to those around him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
