Dr. Bruce C. Dillon, MD, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed surgeon, passed away peacefully at home on May 31, 2026, at the age of 74. His passing, after a valiant battle with ALS, was marked by the love and comfort of his family, who surrounded him in his final moments. Born on March 11, 1952, in Washington, DC, Bruce was the cherished son of the late Edward (Ted) R. Dillon and Margaret (Peggy) L. Dillon (née Campbell). He grew up with a deep sense of purpose and a commitment to service, which was evident throughout his life. Bruce's journey in medicine began with his Bachelor of Science degree from The College of William and Mary in 1974, followed by his Doctor of Medicine degree from The Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1977. His surgical training was completed at the University of Illinois and Cook County Hospitals in 1985, setting the foundation for a remarkable career. As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Dillon practiced General and Vascular Surgery in the western suburbs of Chicago until 2019. His dedication to his field was further exemplified by his role as Medical Director of Surgical Services for 19 years, during which he spearheaded quality improvement initiatives and was an early adopter of minimally invasive surgical techniques. His contributions to medicine were driven by a deep-seated belief in the power of healing and the importance of compassionate care. Bruce married the love of his life, Jane Tiesenga, on September 18, 1986, in Oak Brook, IL. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around love, family, and faith. Bruce and Jane were blessed with four wonderful children: Elizabeth Fusick, Rebecca Dillon, Jonathan Dillon, and Stephen Dillon, and eight treasured grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bruce was a man of profound faith and an active member of Tomoka Christian Church. His commitment to service was evident in the numerous medical mission trips he participated in, bringing hope and healing to those in need. Bruce's love for nature was a constant source of joy and inspiration. He found solace in hiking, camping, canoeing, and birdwatching—activities that allowed him to connect with the beauty of the world around him. A skilled DIYer, Bruce took great pride in undertaking various rehab and construction projects for his children, leaving lasting memories and structures that stand as a testament to his love and dedication. He is survived by his devoted wife Jane, his children Elizabeth, Rebecca, Jonathan, and Stephen, his eight grandchildren, and his loving sisters Janice Rudden and Carol Boyd. Bruce's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. In honoring Bruce's memory, his family invites those who loved him to celebrate his life and the remarkable impact he had on the world.
