In Loving Memory

Brownie Butler
May 20, 1938 — October 2, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Brownie Butler on October 2, 2026. Born on May 20, 1938, in the quaint town of Pinning, Arkansas, Brownie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Brownie was the cherished son of Alice and Hubert Butler, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his brothers Franklin, David, and Augustus Butler, and sisters Mildred and Diana Butler. He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience through his devoted wife, Pamela Saint, whom he married on June 17, 1960, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Together they built a life full of love and laughter.
Brownie is survived by his four children: Eugene, Robert, and Elijah Butler, and his daughter, Sandra Steel. His family was the light of his life, including his 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish his memory.
Though Brownie did not complete high school, his ambition and determination led him to Chicago in the 1960s, where he learned the pipe fitting trade. He went on to own his own company and served as a journeyman pipe fitter with the Local Union 150 in Chicago for over 50 years. His dedication to his craft was unwavering, and he was respected by all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
During his lifetime, Brownie served a brief period in the U.S. military, exemplifying his commitment to service and community. Known for his quick wit and infectious smile, Brownie had the remarkable ability to light up any room he entered. He was truly one of a kind, with a love for playing cards, particularly his favorite game, spades.
A memorial service to honor Brownie's life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Corinthian Temple Church of God in Christ, located at 4520 W Washington, Chicago, IL 60624. The family invites all who knew and loved him to join in celebrating his remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Brownie's memory. Your generosity will be a continuation of his spirit of giving and kindness.
The family wishes to share a special message of remembrance, penned by his daughter, Sandra Goodman:
Those we love never truly leave us, they live on in our hearts forever. Their laughter, their love, their gentle ways, are the memories we hold dear. Though time may pass and days may change, the love they gave will never fade. For in our hearts, they'll always be, a part of us, no matter where life leads. So as we say our final goodbyes, we find comfort in the love they left behind. For those we love don't really go away, they walk beside us in every step we take, in spirit, in memory, in our hearts—today, tomorrow, and always.
Brownie Butler's legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will remain with us always. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Brownie Butler welcomes donations to a charity, nonprofit, church, or organization of your choosing.
