Born on September 21, 1966, in Atlanta, Georgia, Brian was a beacon of light and compassion to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to kindness, resilience, and the power of community. Brian was the beloved son of Martha Watkins and Earl Johnson, who predeceased him, along with his dear relatives Betty Watkins and Horace Watkins. He is survived by his devoted wife of 25 years, Sandra Watkins. The couple, who met as college sweethearts at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), shared a deep and abiding love. Their journey together as mentors to troubled teens was just one of the many ways they touched lives. Together, they traveled across the U.S., forming an inseparable bond that inspired those around them. Brian and Sandra were blessed with a loving family, including their children Sydney, Brittany, Nicole, Brian Jr., and Jalen. His legacy continues through his 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy into his life. Brian also leaves behind his siblings Yvonne, Gina, Sarah, Anthony, Christopher, Terry, and Michael, alongside his close friend Malachi Simpson. A graduate of North Atlanta High School in 1984, Brian pursued higher education at FAMU, where he earned a degree in Engineering and Architecture. He furthered his studies with a Master's in Urban Planning and Design, a testament to his dedication to creating better communities. His career was marked by his work as a mentor to troubled youth and in construction, where he combined his passion for helping others with his professional skills. Brian's hobbies included cooking, playing cards, fishing, and spending time with his family. He had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel special and welcome, often brightening the darkest days with his laughter and humor. Known for his warm heart and generosity, Brian was always ready to lend a hand, even before being asked. His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Grady Memorial Hospital for their dedication and care, as well as to friends who reached out with condolences. In accordance with his wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Brian's memory are encouraged to Join the family after the service . Brian Watkins will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and admiration by all who knew him. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
