Brenda Lea Mayes, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, surrounded by her cherished family and friends. Born on November 16, 1960, in Columbia, MO, Brenda's journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and the deep bonds she formed with those around her. Brenda was the cherished daughter of Wanda Malone and Charles Knipp, and she found joy in her large family, which included brothers Otis, Jerry, Michael, and Charles, and sisters Linda, Peggy, and Robin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Mayes; mother, Wanda Malone; grandmother, Delia Knipp; and many other dear family members who held a special place in her heart. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Trisha Thurman and Monica Himmel, who were the light of her life. Brenda's legacy continues through her adored grandchildren, Makayla Himmel, Braxton Harrison, and Dominik Bratcher, who brought her immense joy and pride. Brenda's life was enriched by her careers, which were as diverse as the love she shared. Her journey took her from serving delicious meals at Taco Bell and Southern Boone Elementary School in Ashland, MO, to expressing her creativity and passion as a hairdresser at Great Clips, a role she cherished deeply. Brenda was a proud member of the Columbia Eagles Lodge, where she formed lasting friendships and enjoyed many lively gatherings. Her hobbies reflected her vibrant personality. Brenda had a knack for cutting hair and a passion for spending time with her grandchildren. She was a spirited competitor in darts and pool and enjoyed the simple pleasures of fishing with friends, taking trips, and experiencing new places. Her love for peace signs was a testament to her 60s upbringing, a symbol of the love and peace she hoped to spread. Brenda will be remembered for her quick wit, fiery spirit, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her stubbornness was only outmatched by her immense heart and willingness to lend an ear to anyone in need. She was a beacon of strength and compassion, always ready with a smile or a word of encouragement.
